Match Report

Caradon 2's first game back after the festive break was a difficult away trip to promotion pushing Bude.
With a few regular players missing, Caradon needed to gel quickly with players out of position. But, they were caught off guard as the home side took the lead early in the first half with a quick and slick bit of passing from the midfield. This seemed to wake up Caradon as they started to put passes together and get more vocal on the pitch with encouragement and support for their fellow teammates. It was level pegging for the next 20 minutes as the end to end chances certainly gave the midfield a good post Christmas run out.
Caradon had the chance to level the score as they won a short corner with 10 minutes to go. It was not converted however the Bude clearance was stopped and a sweeping pass into the D by Abi Largio was met by Sarah 'Browner' Strevens who scrambled to the floor to ensure her out stretched stick met the ball and dinked past the keeper into the goal.

Going into the second half on equal terms with the 2nd placed team in the league gave Caradon a big boost, the timing of the break was unfortunate as they were on a roll with great play and dominance. Frustratingly this showed when Bude scored quickly after the break with another after a further 10 minutes. Caradon won two more short corners but with Bude coming out with some speed they couldn't take the advantage. Despite being 3-1 down the team still had their fair share of the play, showing a growth in gameplay from playing Bude in the first game of this season with passing back if needed and switching passes right across the park when congested play on the wings needed changing.

Many of the Bude attacks down the right side were snuffed out by player of the match Georgia Hall. Showing great skill and maturity as the youngest player on the pitch, she showed strength and ability in well timed tackles and reading passes.

As Bude added one more goal before the final whistle making it 4-1, Caradon didn't let their heads or each other down. The fixtures have them facing the top teams in this early part of the second half of the season so will take every lesson learnt with them as they go on to face Marjons away tomorrow.
