Match Report

Caradon Men's 1st XI faced Penzance this Saturday. Having held Penzance to a draw in a cup game already this season Caradon knew what it would take to win points this weekend.

From the first touch Caradon set to work, pressuring Penzance on the ball not allowing them any space to breath blocking them well within their half. The game continued in this fashion, Penzance with most of the procession but unable to do anything thing with it.

Penzance were the first to score, the away midfielder picked up the ball just inside the 25 and drove towards the D, striking the ball. Dan Harris, the goal keeper, calmly lifted his foot over the ball watching it hit the back board, to his surprise the umpire blew his whistle, awarding the goal after judging it to be in the D when hit.

Caradon fought back before the end of the first half, Martin Batty driving down the right, slipping the ball under his shoulder to Chris Fasey who found Ollie Allsop at the back post to deflect the ball in.

In the second half Caradon settled a bit and played some great team hockey across the pitch, but before they could capitalise Penzance struck back. After already facing down a number of short corners Penzance forced Caradon to make a mistake, slipping the ball into the back of the net.

Caradon, with the bit between their teeth set about attacking, with 5 minutes remaining, only to have the ball turned over high up the pitch, isolating Tim Wright 2 on 1 and conceding a third goal. To add insult to injury Neil Spencer also decided to get a green card and spend two minutes in the sun bin.

Despite having ten men Caradon did not give up, dig deep and with Luke Jeffery attacking down the right and finding Fasey at the top of the D Caradon got a goal bring the game back in reach.

Penzance held the ball for the remaining time much to the frustration of the Caradon team and with the final whistle the game was concluded with a 3-2 loss. Next week Caradon travel to Plymouth to play Devon Port Services.
