Match Report | An early, cold and blustery pushback at Poltair School faced Caradon 2 as they arrived for a must win game against St Austell. Currently below them in the Trelawney Division 1 table, a win was the only option to give Caradon a gap from the bottom and to close in on Falmouth 2’s above them. The second half continued with Caradon in full flow but St Austell came out strong with some quick counter attacks. However, the only shot on goal was kicked in by the striker and correctly disallowed by the umpire. The visiting team were playing some great hockey, switching across the pitch, using the wings and utilising attacking play practised at training during the week. With St Austell becoming frustrated with mistakes, their tackles were coming in strong and despite the clock having to stop for Caradon players to walk off injuries, the determination that has been ever present so far this season wasn’t diminished and held out for the 2-0 win.The only thing that Caradon will be disappointed with is that more goal chances were not converted in the second half, which would have made the scoreline more reflective of their dominance. With a weekend spare of a game tomorrow, they continue the first half of the season next week with an away game to fellow promoted Trelawney 2 team, Mannamead, at Brickfields. |
