Caradon 2 had a tough draw in the cup against Falmouth 1, a team who normally play their hockey in the top end of the league above.
Despite holding off attacks for the first 15 minutes, Falmouth’s class soon started to show as their free flowing hockey across the pitch started resulting in goals as they went up 3-0 by half time. However, Caradon still had chances and were determined to try and stay in the game. The defensive line up of Claire Brown, Rachael Spencer and Georgia Hall stood strong against counter attacks while keeper Bekki Eddy had a busy game saving a number of shots impressively. The home side had to make a few changes in the regular formation due to absent players but EJ and Sadie Mullis as well as Kerryn Walsh on the wings provided running wide options which were utilised more after the half time talk.
Falmouth made it 5-0 with inspiring attacks which almost left Caradon watching in awe as unmarked players jumped on passes into the D. The home side weren’t short of penalty corner chances, and converted one at last as Jayne Longrigg stopped at the top of the D with a slip left to waiting Helen Manley who pushed the ball past the Falmouth goalkeeper. But Caradon continued to be outplayed by a quality team as the final whistle blew making it 8-1 to the visitors.
In spite of the score line Caradon can be happy with their attitude and play against a top side, although their heads dropped halfway through the second half they still created chance and opportunity in front of goal and were unlucky not to get a few more on the score sheet. Tomorrow they have a must win game away at Poltair School against St Austell who sit just below them in the Trelawney Division 1 league table.
