Match Report

Caradon 2s made the long journey in some atrocious weather down to Penzance for their second away game of the season. A traditionally tough game, Caradon once again had a changed line-up to cope with injuries and absences with Daisy Hunn and Leah Jones making their 2nd team debuts.

Thankfully the weather cleared up for the start of the match, unfortunately Caradon seemed to be back in the changing room as Penzance went up 2-0 within the first 15 minutes. However this seemed to spur the visiting side on, as the determination they have showed so well so far this season made an appearance as a strong attack found Daisy in the D, using her strength at close range to push past both the defender and keeper coming out towards her. Using this momentum, Caradon found themselves with more possession and short corner opportunities. Despite a few strong strikes by Jayne Longrigg in these set play chances, a switch was made and the ball went out to Pippa Hedley who stopped and struck into the smallest corner of the goal to make it 2-2.

Despite this comeback, Caradon let their heads dip in the second half, losing concentration and confidence as a battering of goals from Penzance in quick succession made it 7-2, but all being quality goals Caradon could not complain with the home team looking like the league contenders they are aiming to be this season.
Many teams would have rolled over but with 5 minutes to go Caradon continued to chase balls down and apply pressure, making the Penzance defence look unsettled mis-hitting balls on many occasions. Every player ran to the very end – which happened to be a Caradon short corner just as the final whistle was blown. The ball was met at the top of the circle by Jayne who stopped and slipped left to a waiting Helen Manley, who hit the moving ball first time into the backboard. Little consolation in what was at times a deflating game for the visitors.

However, lessons are being in learnt in every game in this new league and Caradon continue to chase their first win against another top tough side tomorrow, at home to Duchy.
