Caradon 2 - 4
Camborne SoM - 4
After a beating from Plym Valley in their first away game, Caradon were keen to get back in the saddle in pursuit of their first points of the season.
They faced Camborne School of Mines at Lux last week, a young and fit team, however the line up for Caradon was more familiar with regular players returning to the group.
It started well for the home team, as they found themselves 2-0 up in 25 minutes. A strong strike from Jayne Longrigg slammed the backboard much to the delight and relief of the team who had already fended off many counter attacks.
Jayne was also involved in the build up of goal number 2, passing to Natalie Ridgers who dinked the ball in perfect position for Browner to push in from close range.
Camborne replied with a goal of their own just before the much needed half time in unseasonal October heat.
After a positive and upbeat half time talk, Caradon were buzzing with confidence. However numerous short corner chances weren't being converted so a switch in ideas found Helen Manley as the top D slip taking the ball wide with a strike met on the far post by Abi Larigo. 3-1.
Caradon's strong defence make up of Claire Brown, Rach Spencer and Georgia Hall kept many Camborne attacks at bay, with Lauren Bowdler impressive in goal confidently kicking out and blocking shots. But Camborne's determination paid off with 2 very quick goals finding themselves back on level terms at 3-3.
Superb wing running and pressure from Nicola Batten, Pippa Hedley and youngster Sadie Mullis spurred the team to keep going knowing another goal was due. Browner and Helen found themselves 2 on 1 with the keeper and despite Browner's shot being saved Helen was quick to react to the rebound slotting home to give Caradon the lead once more.
EJ had a busy afternoon in the sweeper position blocking attacks and getting under the skin of the Camborne players! With only a few minutes left, Caradon were tired but desperate for the win. Unfortunately it wasn't to be as Camborne jumped on a stray ball in the D from a short corner and scored with the final whistle blowing at 4-4.
Caradon should be pleased with their game attitude and take great positives from the individual and team play, they head down to Penzance tomorrow in good spirits following this performance. |
