Match Report | Caradon travelled to Torbay in the hope of earning their first away win of the season and although not playing the best hockey claimed the crucial three points. Caradon started slowly, struggling with their first touch and slow to react to the home teams’ attacking play. Caradon clung on knowing that they would start to play better as the game went on. Caradon soon started to create some chances and a fragile confidence was building. Captain, Clare Poad, fired in the opening goal but Torbay were not going to roll over and if it had not been for some heroic saves by player of the match Helen Dellbridge the score line could of been quite different at half time. The frustration felt at half time led to improved phases of play early in the second half. Joely Bytheway creating panic in the Torbays’ defence led to penalty corners being awarded of which Poad scored from a stop and strike to extend the lead. As Caradon started to take their foot off the gas Torbay capitalised, scoring a soft goal from a penalty corner and forcing a penalty flick which Dellbridge brilliantly saved. Despite the umpires awarding numerous penalty corners in the last ten minutes Caradon held on for the win. |
